Hey proud members of Gen-Y! This one's for you :)
We all walk down the same road; I've been there, done that. So here's something I believe can help most of you. I'm not stereotyping or judging anyone but on the basis of the experiences I've had, this is just genuine advice I wish someone had told me earlier!
Why don't I just lay it down in points? Will be easier for you to keep the ones you want, isn't it?
Here goes!
- Friends from this period won't always stay, and no, you don't have time to sit and cry about the ones you've lost. People come and go. Give attention those who are worth it, and even if someone breaks your trust, it's no big deal at this age at all! This is when you should learn to move ahead. Experiences like 'depression' and 'heartbreak' are very strong ones and they're definitely not the ones that you'll go through now. Don't use these words just because of English lectures, duh! I've been through depression and trust me, you don't wanna be there! The worlds awaits you, you've got dreams to chase and miles to go from here, so just a bunch of friends leaving can't bring your purpose down! :)
- Don't judge anyone, not even yourself. Judging people, back-biting and gossiping is never gonna get you anywhere. No, her/his dress sense doesn't say anything about them, their personality does. Go talk to them, give them a chance! If you don't like someone, keep quiet about it and don't talk to them. It's really not your job to tell the world about your opinions, everybody has a mind of their own, their own choices and a comfort zone. Let people be! Harmonize along... Don't compare any aspect of yours to anyone, respect yourself!
- Be yourself of course. If you spend all your energy in comparisons and cloning someone's lifestyle/look, you're not gonna enjoy yourself! Laugh like you naturally do, dress to make yourself feel beautiful, speak what your heart says and behave like your mind tells you to! Don't judge and don't be afraid of being judged! That's where you'll find happiness i.e in your uniqueness! :D
- Create real memories, not just photo albums :P We go out and meet special people to spend quality time, not only to click selfies! Pictures are fun, technology is at it's peak, go ahead, use it, but don't let it eat up your special moments! Leave your phones aside, no one's gonna kill you for not replying within 10 secs! Now you know why most people now have issues starting a real-life conversation! Go places to "enjoy", not ONLY for some temporary profile picture!
- Never quit until you find your calling. It sometimes takes people 30 years or more to find their perfect passion and feed it but they do take it forward even then. Do not let small failures bring you down, this is the time to experiment with all the various options you have! The modern day world has opened up thousands of career options so there's obviously at least one which will drive you! Both failures and success at a young age don't matter a lot. Losing or winning that inter-school debate competition or election isn't going to reflect in your resume, is it?
- Marks don't matter, they never did, they never do and they never will. Our education system serves to us a full platter, but most of us are only passionate about a few of these subjects, hence the other subjects are going to drag your percentage down now, but as soon as you get into the stream of your choice, you're gonna be an unstoppable beast at specialization! Focus on what you love and work hard on everything. All the items on the platter, (though they will not be not tasty to you, but) will surely be advantageous some where ;)
- Live life! Don't spend all day studying because you're into IIT coaching, you do deserve some time off... Always keep a few minutes for yourself. Meditation and yoga for 10 mins will definitely go a long way. Your life is for you so don't give in to anybody's pressure, DO WHAT YOU LOVE, if people don't listen, rebel, but never self-pity and regret later.
Take decisions and don't look back, life cannot be about regrets, it can only be about how one's shaping all the mess into one happy picture! Do everything with full responsibility!

Don't give way to depression, nobody's failing, I'll let Trent Shelton do the talking :')
